Parents and Guardians:

To say it's been an unusual end of the school year would be an understatement.  As we finish the last weeks of school, teachers have prepared a final report.  The final report reflects this year's learning and some concluding comments.  For those of you concerned about the impact of your child(ren) missing three months of school, I will borrow a quote from Canadian news host Ben Mulroney.  After weeks of juggling work and childcare and trying to provide "home schooling", he and his wife came to the conclusion their three kids "had lots of runway left".  It's a great quote, doesn't diminish the importance of school, but puts in perspective the fact that your children have plenty of time to recover nicely from the loss of instruction.  Good teaching means teachers will identify what each student knows and take them forward from that point.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Ms. Hare-Walsh and I will be distributing reports from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm from the school.  Call the school number(s) 785 5119, 785 5140 to let us know you are coming and we will meet you in the parking lot with your child's report.  We will be looking for you! If you cannot reach us on the phone, send an email to frankhumber@nlesd.ca with your anticipated time of arrival.

I try not to dwell on what was lost during this time away from school, but I am truly going to miss the traditions in our final assembly.  Kindergartens reading, "When I grow up, I want to be a ... " and saying good bye to our grade 6 students are special traditions.  For those of you who are familiar, finishing the school year with a rousing rendition of the "Holiday Song" is a highlight of the year.  Unfortunate to say the least, but the student successes attained during this shortened school year were many, and the positive relationships forged between students and staff will carry over into the start of next year.  I wish everyone a great summer.
